Work gets rolling on undercover green

THE Torrensville Bowling Club has kicked off work on a $3.5 million undercover bowling green.
The revamp will accommodate 12 new state-of-the-art rinks on a new synthetic green.
It’s expected to take 12 months to complete, with the bowling club contributing approximately $1.8 million towards the project.
The Federal Government has provided $750,000 in funding, while the West Torrens Council has chipped in $470,000 for earthworks .
Torrensville Bowling Club secretary Michael Feeney said the South Rd facility would become a world-class facility.
“The new state of the art 12 rink undercover synthetic green will be a world class facility and will enable the South Australian bowling community, and the state, to bid for national and international competitions, bringing more interstate and international visitors into the state,” he said.
West Torrens Mayor John Trainer said the project would inject social and sporting benefits into the local community, creating more than 20 jobs.
“West Torrens City Council would like to congratulate Torrensville Bowling Club and the Australian Government for their commitment to this project,” he said.
The Torrensville Bowling Club was established in 2015, following the amalgamation of the Hindmarsh Bowling Club and Underdale-Airport Bowling Club.
