The first Championship at our new home was decided on February 27, when Des Richardson and Bill Cooper staged a last bowl, come from behind win over Callum Butler and Brody Kerr in the Pairs Final.
We all know that sport can at times be cruel, and in bowls, having the last bowl can be particularly so. This was demonstrated when the score went from 13 to 9 in favour of Callum and Brody to 14-13 on the last bowl. Last year’s Mens Singles champion, Bill Cooper, showed a glimpse of last year’s form to dash the hope of the youthful duo. Callum and Brody (whose combined ages are 45) will doubtless win many accolades over their careers. Des (88) and Bill (76) are closer to the other end of their time on the greens and will no doubt cherish this memory.
