Vale Norm Lockwood

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of club life member Norm Lockwood on Saturday.

Norm was a thoughtful man and an absolute gentleman, and our sincere condolences are with his family.

He was a life member of both Underdale and Torrensville bowling clubs and was loved and respected by all.

He was bowling in a final at Torrensville at the time so, as many have commented, it’s hard to think of a more fitting departure at the age of 97. Norm was from Thebarton Bowls Club who joined with Underdale Bowling Club many years ago.Already a Life Member of the Thebarton Bowling Club he became a Board Member, Selector, Greens Manager and, with others, ran the BBQ for Underdale Night Owls. He also won a number of Club titles at Thebarton and Underdale.

Norm’s team mates rallied for the postponed final on Sunday and won their way through to the Grand Final. This will be held at Lockleys this coming Saturday, the 22nd. We urge all Torrensville members to get along and support the team, as they attempt to honour Norm’s legacy. We also extend the invitation to anyone from the wider bowling community who knew the outstanding gentleman that was Norm Lockwood.

The Board is considering what would constitute a suitable memorial for Norm at our new home, and members are welcome to share their ideas with Board members.
